Ghostbusters: Afterlife has received an MPAA rating.

According to Film Ratings, Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been rated PG-13 for "supernatural action and some suggestive references".

The PG-13 rating is in contrast to the initial two Ghostbusters movies, both of which were rated PG. It is, however, on par with the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, which was rated PG-13 for "supernatural action and some crude humor". Afterlife is also only the third film from director Jason Reitman to score a PG-13 rating following Juno and Labor Day.

The MPAA rating for Ghostbusters: Afterlife warning of "supernatural action" reflects previous statements from Reitman where he talked about how the film would combine a story that kids could watch with genuinely frightening scares. "The feeling that I've kind of held onto is that while it is very funny, it really scared me," Reitman said. "It was really my first experience with a horror film." He went on to note that "I was at a Directors Guild meeting and I happened to be sitting next to Steven Spielberg -- when I told him I was working on Ghostbusters, he out of nowhere said, 'Library Ghost -- top ten scares of all time.' And it's true."

Directed by Jason Reitman, Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd and Mckenna Grace. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 11.
