With its use of makeshift sci-fi technology and memorable supernatural menaces, the Ghostbusters franchise is known for its level of visual effects work. Nevertheless, the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife won't rely heavily on CG.

Star Finn Wolfhard revealed that a surprising amount of practical effects was used by the production to deliver a new generation of ghost-busting action, with the sequel following a small family discovering their connection to the Ghostbusters after they move to the Midwest.

"There’s a lot of practical effects," Wolfhard told Bloody Disgusting. "And a lot of the effects that you think would be CGI are not, which I was so happy to be part of.”

While the film's first trailer showcased several familiar Ghostbusters relics, including the ECTO-1 and trappers, Wolfhard noted that all the content was "very surface level," hinting that even bigger things would be revealed as the film nears closer to its July release date.
