Ghostbusters: Afterlife was directed by Jason Reitman, the son of Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II helmer Ivan Reitman. "My father hasn't been leaving the house much because of Covid," Jason Reitman told Empire. "But he took a test, put on a mask and drove down to the Sony lot to watch the movie with the studio. And after, he cried, and he said, 'I'm so proud to be your father.' And it was one of the great moments of my life."

Jason Reitman went on to say his goal was to make Ghostbusters: Afterlife as scary as his father's Ghostbusters movies. "The feeling that I've kind of held onto is that while it is very funny, it really scared me. It was really my first experience with a horror film," he said. "I was at a Directors Guild meeting and I happened to be sitting next to Steven Spielberg -- when I told him I was working on Ghostbusters, he out of nowhere said, 'Library Ghost -- top ten scares of all time.' And it's true."

In addition to its new cast members, Ghostbuster: Afterlife will include appearances by original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and Annie Potts. According to Murray, the film will honor the legacy of the character Egon, who was played by the late Harold Ramis in Ivan Reitman's Ghostbusters movies.

From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film is written by Gil Kenan & Jason Reitman.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman, who also co-wrote the film with Gil Kenan. Starring Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson and Paul Rudd, the film arrives in theaters June 11, 2021.
