Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman revealed that a screening of the new movie brought his father, original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, to tears.

"My father hasn't been leaving the house much because of Covid," Reitman said to Empire. "But he took a test, put on a mask and drove down to the Sony lot to watch the movie with the studio. And after, he cried, and he said, 'I'm so proud to be your father.' And it was one of the great moments of my life."

Reitman is taking over from his father to usher in a new era of the Ghostbusters franchise and has kept the cards close to his chest on what Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be about. Apart from confirmation that original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts will all be reprising their roles, there's speculation that McKenna Grace's Phoebe and Finn Wolfhard's Trevor are related to Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis). Due to Ramis' death in 2014, he's the only original Ghostbuster not returning.

The passing of Ramis will apparently factor into the movie, per comments from Murray. "The script is good. It's got lots of emotion in it. It's got lots of family in it, with through lines that are really interesting. It's gonna work," Murray previously said about Ghostbusters: Afterlife. "We are a man down. That's the deal. And that's the story that we're telling, that's the story they've written."

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman, who also co-wrote the film with Gil Kenan. Starring Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd and Mckenna Grace, the film arrives in theaters June 11.
