Ghost Rider Sequel Will Haunt Theaters In February 2012

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the sequel to Columbia Pictures’ widely disparaged 2007 comic-book adaptation, will roll into theaters on Feb. 17, 2012, Exhibitor Relations reports.

Directed by the Crank team of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the film is shooting — in 3-D, naturally! — in Romania. The sequel again stars Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, the stunt motorcyclist turned fiery, leather-clad spirit of vengeance.

Just last week an Italian website contended it had uncovered a draft of the movie, credited to FlashForward‘s Scott Gimple and Seth Hoffman from a story by Davide S. Goyer. Spirit of Vengeance reportedly picks up a year after the first film, with Johnny Blaze living in self-imposed exile. He’s approached by Moreau, a monk of the Order of St. Michael, who requires his stuntman talents to find a woman named Nadya and her son Danny, “who must be protected at all costs.”

The first Ghost Rider grossed almost $230 million worldwide.
