As Judgment Day progresses and the Progenitor's disturbing rulings leave a dark cloud over the Marvel Universe, characters in the story and readers alike wrack their brains trying to discern how the terrible war could have been prevented. With the Progenitor threatening the fate of the entire planet, it is somewhat surprising that heroes from the villain's past are missing from the fray, especially a Ghost Rider who once possessed the body of a fallen Celestial. Robbie Reyes was able to go beyond his limits once before and re-animate the body of the all-powerful being, so it remains an oddity that the Avengers did not utilize this ability once again.

Tony Stark and Mister Sinister, among others, managed to bring the almighty Progenitor back to life through scientific dabbling. However, they threatened the lives of everyone on the planet through their miscalculations. It is equally surprising the Avengers immediately resorted to the idea of restoring the deadly Celestial. While there would still be some kinks in the plan to work out, through some magical illusions and/or telepathy. it's extremely plausible that the heroes could have fooled the Eternals into withdrawing from their intended genocide with the help of Robbie.

In Avengers #5 (Jason Aaron, Ed McGuinness, Paco Medina, David Curiel), the Dark Celestials are terrorizing the planet with their insurmountable power and looking for deceased brethren to infect with The Horde. In order to stop this threat from eliminating all life on the planet as a part of Loki's schemes, Robbie Reyes actually enters a Celestial infected with the Horde and eradicates the infection, becoming the pilot of the entity's husk. Surprising everyone at the time, it seems that the Ghost Rider has forgotten about this overpowered ability. If Reyes had simply repeated this possession and combined it with a little magic, he could've easily fooled the Eternals into calling off their genocide.

When the young Spirit of Vengeance did manage to pull off this stunning example of hidden power, the only dead give away that he was not a space god brought back to life was the giant flaming skull of his new Celestial power armor and the slight changes to its aesthetic. If a magic wielder of great skill such as Magik or possibly Wanda Maximoff combined their abilities with the mutant's strongest telepaths like Jean Grey and Emma Frost to create the perfect illusion, they could easily have tricked Eternals and everyone else into thinking Robbie was actually the Progenitor brought back to the land of the living. From there it would be simple to order the Eternals to cease their genocidal war against the mutants since it's a part of their internal coding to listen to Celestials without question. By ignoring this amazing ability that Ghost Rider possesses, the heroes may have doomed the entire Earth.

Robbie Reyes is a young hero who sometimes doubts himself due to his inexperience, but this would've been the perfect catalyst for Reyes to show the world exactly how valuable he truly is. Yet again, due to the old guards' hubris when it comes to scientific solutions, the planet is staring down potential Armageddon. Thus, it is a shame to not see the writers bring Robbie to the forefront of a major Marvel event with a supernatural resolution. This Ghost Rider hasn't really been given his time to shine yet, and A.X.E. could've been his big moment by having him be the key to stopping the war. Possessing a dead Celestial is a feat that the heroes shouldn't have been quick to forget, so maybe they should've implemented a proven strategy before trying to play scientific gods. Even if their plan had failed with Reyes, a revived Progenitor would've forced the Eternals to listen due to their programming afterward their first attempt either way.

With Robbie Reyes largely absent from A.X.E., this forgotten power stands as a missed opportunity for the heroes to have prevented a potential apocalypse at the hands of the Progenitor. As the newly created god casts his judgments, one can't help but believe the heroes should have taken a more mystical route. An already underutilized character, this fan favorite Ghost Rider could have stopped the war before it ever got out of hand. Instead, humanity and mutantkind are on the brink of destruction. Hope still remains for the Marvel Universe, but Robbie Reyes and his powerset remain a distinct missed opportunity.
