Almost three years after its announcement at the Paris Games Week conference in 2017, Ghost of Tsushima will finally release this Summer. Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, this will be the company's first release since 2014's Infamous First Light. In this third-person action-adventure stealth game, players will control Jin Sakai, a samurai living in Feudal Japan during the late 13th century, and explore an open-world as Jin fights to liberate his homeland from the first Mongol invasion.

Here's what you need to know about Ghost of Tsushima's release, including when it's coming out, the different editions available and what you get from pre-ordering it.

Ghost of Tsushima Release Date

Ghost of Tsushima is currently set to release on July 17, three weeks later than the June 26 date that was announced earlier this year. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic impacting release dates across all kinds of media, this could change.

As late as April 13, the game was still on-track for its original release date, and the delay is likely to accommodate for The Last of Us Part II's newly announced June 19 launch.

Ghost of Tsushima Editions

In addition to the Standard Edition, there are several special editions available. All of these come with a digital mini-soundtrack that includes a selections of songs from the game, an avatar that features Jin and a dynamic theme depicting him.

For $69.99, just $10 more than the Standard Edition, you can purchase the Special Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition. The only difference between these is that the Special Edition is a physical release that comes with a steelbook. Aside from that, both of these come with in-game items (one technique point, a Charm of Hachiman's Favor and the Hero of Tsushima skin set), a mini digital art book, director's commentary and a Samurai theme.

While it's not yet clear what exactly the in-game items will do, they will be unlocked by progressing through the story, meaning that these won't upset the normal balance of the game. As for the director's commentary, this will feature members of the creative team sitting down with a Japanese historian to compare the game's world with the historical events it is based on. Sucker Punch has openly discussed its collaboration with Japanese cultural experts in order to ensure the game is an accurate and sensitive portrayal of the time period, so this bonus is certain to provide fascinating insight into the process.

Finally, like other triple-A titles, Ghost of Tsushima is receiving a Collector's Edition. For $169.99, you'll get everything from the Special Edition, plus a Sakai Mask with a stand, a cloth map, a sashimono (a war banner), a furoshiki (a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth) and a 48 page long physical art book from Dark Horse. This edition, while not exclusive to any particular retailer, is already out of stock in several places, so be sure to pre-order it if you're interested.

Ghost of Tsushima Pre-Order Bonuses
