Paramount Pictures has released a new Japanese trailer for "Ghost in the Shell," the live-action adaptation that stars Scarlett Johansson as The Major.

Based on Masamune Shirow’s popular cyberpunk manga, as well as Mamoru Oshii's anime adaptations, the film features Johansson as a cyborg-human hybrid who leads Section 9, a task force assigned to stop cyber-criminals. Now they face a new enemy devoted to destroying Hanka Robotic’s artificial intelligence technology.

Directed by Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman"), this version of "Ghost in the Shell" earned the approval of Oshii, who paid a visit to the set. “Scarlett Johansson playing Motoko from beginning to end has gone above and beyond my expectations for the role,” he said. “I’m sure this will be the most gorgeous film in the series so far.”

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “Ghost in the Shell” follows Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Opening March 31, 2017, “Ghost in the Shell” also stars Pilou Asbæk, Beat Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt, Kaori Momoi, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara and Tuwanda Manyimo.
