Ahead of the Big Game on Sunday, Paramount Pictures has debuted the new Super Bowl promo spot for "Ghost in the Shell."

Featuring a blend of new and previously released footage, the 30-second commercial of course focuses on Scarlett Johansson's cyborg-human hybrid The Major, building to the unnerving moment where part of her face is removed as she's told, "The did not save your life. They stole it."

Based on Masamune Shirow’s popular cyberpunk manga, as well as Mamoru Oshii’s anime adaptations, the live-cation film stars Johansson as a cyborg-human hybrid who leads Section 9, a task force assigned to stop cyber-criminals. Now they face a new enemy devoted to destroying Hanka Robotic’s artificial intelligence technology.

Directed by Rupert Sanders (“Snow White and the Huntsman”), this version of “Ghost in the Shell” earned the approval of Oshii, who paid a visit to the set. “Scarlett Johansson playing Motoko from beginning to end has gone above and beyond my expectations for the role,” he said. “I’m sure this will be the most gorgeous film in the series so far.”

Opening March 31, “Ghost in the Shell” also stars Pilou Asbæk, Beat Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt, Kaori Momoi, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara and Tuwanda Manyimo.
