Season 2 of the Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 anime is scheduled to stream worldwide, exclusively on Netflix in 2022.According to Netflix Japan's official Twitter account, the CG anime Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will have its second season premiere on Netflix in 2022. Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 is an original net animation (ONA) and a continuation of the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime. The first season was also originally released on Netflix in 2020. The series takes place in the year 2045, where rapid advances in AI technology have pushed the world into a "Sustainable War." Motoko Kusanagi and her second in command Batou have now left Section 9 and travel to the American west coast in search of new opportunities. However, with the emergence of "post-humans," people with extreme intelligence and physical prowess, the members of Section 9 are forced to reunite to deal with the new threat.
Ghost in the Shell began as a 1989 cyberpunk manga written and illustrated by author Masamune Shirow. It's story is set in mid 21-st century Japan and follows a counter-cyberterrorist organization called Public Security Section 9 and one of its agents, Major Motoko Kusanagi. The manga has since been adapted into several anime by studio Production I.G.: Ghost in the Shell (1995), Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 and Ghost in the Shell: Arise original video animation (OVA), as well as the American-produced live-action movie.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 is the first time the series has been portrayed using full CGI animation. In an attempt to achieve a sense of photo-realism with 3D graphics, the animators utilized motion capture technology to mimic realistic motion. Fans who want to catch up with the story before the second season's premiere should keep an eye out for Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Sustainable Warfare, a compilation film that retells the events of the series' first 12 episodes. A trailer, as well as the first 8 minutes of the movie, have been released ahead of the film's theatrical release in Japan on Nov. 12.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Season 2 will be 12 episodes long directed by Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama and is set to come exclusively to Netflix in 2022.
