Not satisfied with the static imagery provided by analog posters, the Twitter account for the upcoming Rupert Sanders cyberpunk film “Ghost in the Shell” has gone digital.Several motion posters were uploaded to the account today that depict the film’s various actors and actresses in full costume. The posters are actually short video clips that appear static at first, but gradually come to life.

“Ghost in the Shell” is an adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s manga series be the same name, which ran from 1991 to 1997. The series pitted a cyborg named The Major, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in the film, against a cyberterrorist who is hacking into the brains of cyborgs, taking control of their bodies and forcing them to commit crimes. The series was adapted into an animated film by Mamoru Oshii in 1995, and is largely considered to be one of the seminal works of anime.

Debuting in theaters March 31, “Ghost in the Shell” is a production of Paramount Pictures directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Scarlett Johansson as The Major, Michael Pitt as Kuze, Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet, Pilou Asbæk as Batou, Takeshi Kitano as Daisuke Aramaki and Chris Obi as Ambassador Kiyoshi.
