MTV caught up with author George R.R. Martin recently, and asked the lifelong comic book fan for his thoughts on Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa being cast as Warner Bros.' Aquaman.

"It's pretty extraordinary," he said. "Jason Momoa is fantastic. He was wonderful as Khal Drogo. I wish we could've kept him for another 10 seasons."

Before being confirmed as a member of the big-screen Justice League, Momoa was widely known for his role as Khal Drogo on the first season of HBO's Game of Thrones. He may not have gotten"10 seasons" with Momoa, but Martin revealed he'd a discussed a Khal Drogo prequel series with the actor. In light of Momoa's new gig, however, those plans have been put on hold indefinitely.

"I guess I won't be able to do that now," Martin said, "because he's tied up being Aquaman!"

Aquaman dives into theaters in 2018, but that solo film follows possible appearances in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017's Justice League. Zack Snyder, who's directing films, had plenty to say about the new Aquaman when he called in to a Detroit radio station.

"I think the last time I called, we talked a little bit about Aquaman, but it hadn't been announced that Jason Momoa was gonna play Aquaman," the filmmaker said, referring to his spirited defense of the character in August. "I was trying to protect you guys from his wrath. The man is a monster. The guy is awesome and he's so passionate. I was hanging out with him here in Detroit and he was loving on it so hard. He's a great guy, but like I say not a small individual."
