Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush will provide the voice of bird-beaked alien Tomar-Re in director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, Hero Complex reports. Warner Bros. is expected to make the official announcement later today.
The news comes only a day after word surfaced at Latino Review that Oscar nominee Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile, Daredevil) is in talks to voice the fan-favorite Kilowog, another CG-animated member of the Green Lantern Corps. That report remains unconfirmed.
Tomar-Re's comic book history stretches back to 1961, when he debuted in Green Lantern #6 as the first Lantern to meet Abin Sur's replacement Hal Jordan.
Rush, who received his fourth Oscar nomination this year for The King's Speech, will next be seen reprising his role as Hector Barbossa in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Angela Bassett, Temuera Morrison, Jay O. Sanders, Taika Waititi and Jon Tenney. It opens in 3D and 2D on June 17. The second trailer is expected to debut on May 6 with Marvel's Thor.
