There are five different weapon types that make up Genshin Impact's combat system, at least as of early 2022. Even characters like Yae Miko and Klee, who technically use their own special weapon rather than attacking with their books, are still considered to be Catalyst-type combatants despite not really using them. One of the most helpful weapons to have when exploring the world would be none other than the Claymore.

This is due to the heavy greatsword's easy ability to break ores that players find while traversing the world. The Claymore category is also home to the two characters widely recognized by the community to be considered Physical DPS units. There are Claymore units currently out for every available element aside from Hydro as of early 2022, and some naturally end up ranking higher than others when it comes to usability and popularity.

9 Razor Is An Interesting Character Who Falls Short Compared To His Competitors

When Genshin Impact was first released, Razor was seen as one of the more sought-after four-star characters. His Claymore makes him useful for early-game world exploration, and his Elemental Burst made him feel like a character out of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Sadly, his damage output just can't keep up with other Main DPS units, both in the Claymore and Electro categories. He's a more selfish character who needs to be out on the field to deal most of his damage as well, meaning he isn't viable as a support either.

8 Chongyun Is A Decent Cryo Support But Kills Elemental Reactions

Chongyun with popsicle in Genshin

Chongyun has a unique personality, being an exorcist who's never actually laid eyes upon the spirits he's supposed to be vanquishing. He has to keep himself emotionally calm at all times as well as physically cool, which is why he's often seen munching on popsicles.

He's a decent Cryo support, with his Burst providing a damage-over-time Cryo field to help apply reactions. Or it would, but his field also changes any and all melee damage within it to Cryo, meaning he kills any chance of elemental reactions.

7 Xinyan Is Unique But Struggles To Find Her Place In The Meta

Xinyan smiling in Genshin Impact.

Xinyan is another unique character, with her appearance and personality not having a similar match in all of Genshin. She's also a pretty original take on the idea of a Pyro Claymore Support, but sadly there are a few pitfalls with her actual execution.

Where she falters is that she's a character who builds Defense and plays around shields, but she's also supposed to be more of a damage-dealing-oriented character. Not only that, but she's been bugged since release with her Level Three shield not applying the proper effects most of the time.

6 Sayu's Concept Is Interesting, Being The First Anemo-User Who Wields A Claymore

Sayu stretching In Genshin Impact

Sayu was released as the first Claymore-wielder who also holds an Anemo vision, as well as the first child-bodied character to be whipping around such a giant weapon. She's a ninja character who's best-known for avoiding work and trying to find the best spots to take naps.

She's a decent Anemo support, but falters when compared to the likes of Venti, Kazuha, and even Sucrose in terms of support capabilities within her element. She can provide healing as well as take advantage of enemy Elemental reactions, but she isn't used much by the community.

5 Noelle Is A Decent Tank And Is Guaranteed For Every New Player

Noelle is in training to become a member of the Knights of Favonius and is one of the few Claymore users available upon the game's launch. She's also guaranteed for every new player, provided that they're pulling on the discounted Beginner's Wish banner.

She's a decent all-rounder, being able to provide both heals and shields while being a tanky force to be reckoned with. Her Elemental Burst is a decent DPS boost as well, leading players who do enjoy Noelle to use her as a highly survivable Main DPS.

4 Diluc Is A Pyro Powerhouse With A Mysterious Backstory And Cool Design To Boot

Diluc from Genshin Impact.

Diluc is one of the Standard Banner five-stars that's always available to players and was introduced at the start of Genshin's lifespan. He's the only other Standard Main DPS other than Keqing at the moment, and he eclipses her in terms of potential damage.

The only reason he's fallen behind other Pyro Main DPS units like Hu Tao over time is because his Burst pushes enemies away. This is counterintuitive to his design as a melee character with pretty short range and can cause players to spend more time than they'd like chasing down foes to deliver the final blow.

3 Beidou Is An Incredibly Powerful Sub-DPS That Helps Players Learn Enemy Mechanics

Beidou in Genshin Impact.

Beidou is one of the strongest four-star characters in Genshinand for good reason. Her Elemental Skill gives her a shield, which usually is cause for players to ignore some enemy mechanics, as is the case with Zhongli and how easily he can trivialize most of the game's content.

Beidou is different in that her shield has a counterattack that incentivizes players to learn enemy attack windows to maximize her counter-damage output. She's also got a bold, lovable personality and is the sole reason that the player is first able to make their way to Inazuma to begin with.

2 Arataki Itto Is The New Reigning King Of Defense And Geo Damage

Arataki Itto from Genshin Impact.

When it comes to dishing out Geo damage, there's no one who can take off the crown that Arataki Itto stole upon his release. This is partially due to how many other characters share his element and work quite well with him, like Albedo and Gorou.

He's also buffed by the fact that he's Geo, meaning his natural dependence on Defense stats makes him incredibly tanky, unlike a lot of squishier Main DPS units. He's also one of the only characters who keeps their viability — and is even enhanced — by using a team of three or even four Geo users together.

1 Eula Is The Undisputed Queen Of Physical Damage

Eula From Genshin Impact.

Eula was seen as overrated right after her release because fans realized that she didn't exactly do the best job at applying Cryo compared to many of her four-star counterparts. However, it didn't take long for the community to realize the aspect of Eula that makes her truly shine.

That would be the sheer amount of Physical damage that she can dish out. This also means she's not as dependent as most on Elemental Reactions to get the most out of her damage, so players can essentially use her in any team composition they like.
