Rooster Teeth has released the first trailer for the upcoming series gen:LOCK. The series, about two opposing factions warring with massive, mobile mechs, is slated to debut on the company's streaming channel on Jan. 26.

Opening on New York City, the trailer starts with series protagonist Julian Chase (Michael B. Jordan) talking with his mother via hologram. As Julian's hologram dissolves, his mother turns on a TV screen that shows a United Nations equivalent under attack by a swarm-like substance, most likely tied to the show's main villains, the Union.

As the trailer continues, a voiceover from Colonel Marin (Monica Rial) informs those listening that a new war has begun. The trailer then introduces the rest of the cast as they meet up with Dr. Rufus Weller (David Tennant), the mind behind the gen:LOCK program. The next scene has Weller discussing what gen:LOCK is before cutting to Cammie MacCloud (Maisie Williams) inside her mech suit. The rest of the trailer bombards viewers with intense action scenes involving giant robots.

From what the trailer shows, it's clear that Gen:LOCK owes much to old school mecha anime like Robotech and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Much like RWBY, gen:LOCK shows off its anime influences like a badge of honor.
