Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski has stated he wants Dave Bautista to star in the upcoming Netflix movie.

Following the announcement that Netflix is actively developing a Gears of War movie, Bleszinski expressed his wish on Twitter for wrestler-turned-actor Bautista to portray Marcus Fenix, who is the primary protagonist of the first three Gears games. While Bleszinski stated he has not yet been asked to act as a producer on the Netflix project, he added that a Latino actor should play Dom Santiago, who serves as Marcus' right-hand man in the video games.

After several studios tried and failed to adapt the Gears of War video games, it was announced that Netflix was planning several Gears-related projects on Nov. 7, 2022. These projects include a live-action feature film and an animated series. As of now, no actors, directors, or producers are attached to the projects.

Bleszinski worked as lead designer on the first three Gears of War games, which saw Marcus, Dom, and the rest of their company fight against the Locust Horde on the world of Sera. While the trilogy was a massive success, Bleszinski left Epic Games in 2012, claiming he wanted to take a break from creating video games. After his departure, Epic Games continued making Gears of War games, with 2016's Gears of War 4 picking up twenty-five years after the events of the prior game, and 2019's Gears 5 continuing its new story.

Bautista was a full-time professional wrestler in the WWE from 2002 to 2010 before transitioning into acting. He has played Drax the Destroyer in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films and is set to reprise his role in the upcoming The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where he will reportedly say goodbye to the character. "Haven’t found the words yet," Bautista wrote on Instagram upon posting a Vol. 3 wrap photo in May 2022. "It ended so suddenly and I was on to my next film before I could process it all. End of a journey that changed my life."

Bautista is also starring in Rian Johnson's highly anticipated sequel to his 2019 whodunit, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. In a recent interview, Bautista suggested the Knives Out sequel might be better than the original. "I'm always afraid to say that because I don't want anybody to get offended saying that we're going to be better, but I really do think this," he said. "I think the characters are just so much more colorful. I think people are really going to dig this."

Bautista can next be seen in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which will open in select theaters in November before its release on Netflix on Dec. 23.
