Director Gary Ross is sticking with adaptations for the time being. After helming Lionsgate's blockbuster The Hunger Games and passing on the sequel, Deadline reports he's officially boarding Disney's Peter and the Starcatchers. Ross, who previously directed Seabiscuit and Pleasantville, had been in talks with the studio since July.
Based on the 2004 children's novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatchers serves as a prequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic Peter and Wendy, and delves into the back story of Peter Pan. Screenwriter Jesse Wigutow has been working on the script since July and is scheduled to have a new draft in by October.
Ross has lost interest in working on The Secret Life of Houdini and hopes Starcatchers will be his next project.
