Gary Oldman's geek movie resume is easily one of the most impressive in Hollywood. The actor has appeared as Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight trilogy and Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films; with upcoming appearances in RoboCop and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes -- and according to an interview with Sky Movies, he may soon add J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII to his list of credits.

"They've called," Oldman said during the interview. "You know, I'm more cynical about it now. I'll believe it when I'm on the plane home. The deal isn't done, but yeah, they've inquired. I mean, Planet of the Apes, Harry Potter, Batman, and Star Wars -- bloody hell!"

Oldman is among a number of actors currently rumored to be in contention for a Star Wars role, though he's one of the few to confirm talks have actually begun.

Although he's better known for his recent work in many genre franchise films, Oldman has had a long and impressive career on both stage and screen, with roles including Rosencrantz in Tom Stoppard's film adaptation of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead; Dracula in Francis Ford Coppola's version of the horror classic; Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy and many more. (That said, my favorite role of Oldman's will always be that of Richard Crosby, the classically trained actor who played opposite Joey Tribbiani in a war film during a two-episode stint of the long-running sitcom Friends.)

Star Wars: Episode VII is set for release December 18, 2015.
