“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” has cast one half of the franchise’s long running villainous pair, Rocksteady and Bebop. Gary Anthony Williams has joined the cast in the role of Bebop, a mutated punk rock warthog with plenty of attitude and very little in the way of brains. Deadline broke the news of Williams’ casting, who describes the film’s version of Bebop as “a punk street thug member of a ragtag gang of misfits who acts as if he’s intellectually superior, but isn’t.”
Williams has previously been seen in recurring roles on TV series “The Soul Man” and “Benched.” Williams also has extensive voice acting work, having portrayed Uncle Ruckus on “The Boondocks.” Rocksteady, Bebop’s rhino best friend, has not been officially cast yet, although it is rumored that stuntman Myles Humphus will play the part.
While not included in the original ’80s comic book series, Bebop and his partner-in-crime Rocksteady made a big impression on a generation of Turtles fans when they debuted in the 1987 “TMNT” cartoon series. For much of that series’ run, the duo acted as Shredder’s main henchmen. Despite their prominence in the popular cartoon, the upcoming sequel will mark the pair’s big screen debut.
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” opens on June 3, 2016.
