"Tron: Legacy" star Garrett Hedlund is in talks to play a lead role in director Ang Lee's "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk," Deadline reports. Newcomer Joe Alwyn has already been cast in the title role.

The TriStar Pictures adaptation of Ben Fountain's 2012 novel of the same name, it centers on 19-year-old Army Pvt. Billy Lynn, whose unit survives a brief but intense battle in Iraq that's recorded by television news crews. They're brought home by the U.S. government for a "victory tour," set to culminate with a halftime show during a Thanksgiving Day football game, only to learn they're destined to be sent back into combat.

Hedlund, who'll be seen later this year as a young James Cook in Joe Wright's "Pan," will play Sgt. Dime, the intense and explosive leader of Bravo Company. Steve Martin had been in talks for a role, but Deadline indicates scheduling conflicts could sideline him.
