The following contains spoilers for Gargoyles #1, available now from Dynamite Entertainment.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Gargoyles franchise has always been the cadre of villains Goliath's clan has had to face. The shady businessman, Xanatos, was at the forefront, not to mention, the likes of Fox and the Pack. Throw in Macbeth and Goliath's former lover in Demona, and it's easy to see the tremendous threats the heroes have to face., externally and within, as they tried to find their place in New York since their awakening.

Luckily, Goliath's Team Wyvern would rise above, even bringing some enemies to their side. Now, nostalgics are lapping up the new comic series, with Greg Weisman, George Kambadais and Jeff Eckleberry picking up where the comics and cartoon left off. However, as the journey continues, Goliath's deadliest foe has emerged from the shadows, with a sinister purpose in the debut issue.

Thailog is the Gargoyles' Most Frightening Enemy

Gargoyles has Thailog coming for Talon's kid

Gargoyles #1 reconnects fans with Thailog -- the clone that Xanatos and the evil scientist, Dr. Sevarius, created after attaining Goliath's DNA. He was aged up in the series, made stronger than Goliath, and even took his ex-lover, Demona, as a mate for a while. However, none of them could control Thailog, as he broke out on his own, trying to kill Goliath's crew, as well as countless humans time after time. He didn't care for anything outside of ruling the realm, which left Goliath weary from trying to redeem his "son".

While Xanatos would join Goliath's quest, Thailog stuck to his wicked ways, betraying Demona with a clone, Delilah. Sevarius also created genetic copies of the Gargoyles like Hudson, giving Thailog his own tribe. Given the fact that he thinks like Goliath and strategizes better than Xanatos, he's truly been a thorn in the heroes' sides. Now, though, he's making things a lot more personal, leaning into his hatred for Goliath's human lover, Elisa.

The Gargoyles' Worst Enemy has a Sinister Plan

Gargoyles has Thailog coming for Talon's kid

Thailog is seen on the phone, chatting with Shari, a spy in the Labyrinth -- an underground society where some of Thailog's clones and other mutates Sevarius made all fled to. There, Derek (Elisa's brother) takes care of them all, doing the same thing Goliath does. Coincidentally, Sevarius corrupted Derek's DNA with that of a bat, panther and eel, transforming him into Talon. Now, the scientist is back to his nasty ways, wanting Talon's child with Maggie the Cat to raise as his own.

Thailog detests Maggie as she stood up to him in the past when he tried to raid the Labyrinth, so this seems to be his ultimate revenge. He likely only wants the child's DNA, as it'll be the first pure mutate, as opposed to those like Derek and Maggie who were turned by Sevarius. Such a Chosen One could help Sevarius create new, stronger mutates and even better clones, giving Thailog the chance to destroy all his enemies and the traitorous clones who abandoned him. Ultimately, he's always wanted a powerful society of his own, and with the money and resources he stole from Xanatos, and Sevarius by his side, Thailog could be inching a step closer.
