Gareb Shamus and Benderspink Team to Adapt The New West

Benderspink and Wizard Entertainment founder Gareb Shamus have acquired the film rights to The New West, a 2005 comic by Jimmy Palmiotti and Phil Noto, Heat Vision reports.

Published by Black Bull Entertainment, the two-issue series is set in a near-future Los Angeles, where an electromagnetic-pulse bomb has caused all technology to stop working. Against this backdrop, a disgraced former police detective must rescue the kidnapped mayor with only a horse and a sword.

Black Bull was the comics imprint established in 2000 by Wizard to publish such titles as Gatecrasher, Just a Pilgrim, Beautiful Killer and Shadow Reavers. Shamus, who founded Wizard in 1991 and oversaw the two-decade rise and decline of his company, resigned in December as Wizard World’s president and chief executive officer.

Shamus will produce The New West with Benderspink’s Chris Bender, JC Spink and Jake Weiner.
