While Gamora's design in the Marvel Cinematic Universe stuck more to her green-skinned look from the comics, new concept art has emerged indicating Zoe Saldana's character could have had a much different look in her Guardians of the Galaxy debut four years ago.

Veteran Marvel Studios concept artist Charlie Wen shared a few early designs for Gamora on Instagram, which deviate strongly from the simple look that Saldana rocked. The first couple of images paint her in a light similar to her sister, Nebula (Karen Gillan), not just in terms of her skin color, but also give her a more cyborg-like look.

Wen also revealed a design with the character in black leather, and ironically looking similar to how we'd eventually end up seeing Tessa Thompson in last year's Thor: Ragnarok. Of course, these images are done without the likeness of Saldana, so clearly Wen took creative liberty in bringing Gamora to life facial-wise.

The final design, oddly enough, looks like something out of James Cameron's Avatar franchise. If it's one thing Wen was consistent with, though, is the use of hoods and cloaks to ensure the character had that secret assassin vibe Marvel Studios wanted in shaping her as Thanos' 'offspring.'

Saldana's Gamora will next be seen in the untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 3, 2019.
