It's official: "Guardians of the Galaxy's" Gamora will be part of "Avengers: Infinity War." Speaking to MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet, Zoe Saldana -- who plays the deadly assassin -- confirmed that she will reprise the role in the upcoming "Avengers" film.
Asked if fans would see her in "Infinity War," Saldana nodded in response. However, she added that she hasn't yet seen the script. “I don’t know when they’re gonna let me read it," she shared. "I mean, I’m not looking forward to the five hours of green make-up, but every time I finally arrive on set I feel so happy and lucky to be there.”
She also weighed in on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which is where fans will see Gamora before she appears in "Avengers: Infinity War." She said that she was able to see some footage of the film when she went in to do some ADR work and shared that "it looks great" so far.
In December, a casting call appeared to confirm that all of the Guardians -- including Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot -- would be involved in "Avengers: Infinity War." However, public casting calls are usually taken with a grain of salt considering factors like timing and spoilery info, so Saldana's statement is the first official word that Gamora will indeed appear in the film.
Gamora was an integral part of the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film and she has the potential to be just as significant in "Avengers: Infinity War." As a former daughter of Thanos, Gamora has special inside knowledge of how Thanos thinks and operates, which may prove to be especially important as he ramps up his effort to collect the Infinity Stones. Since the Avengers currently possess several of these coveted gems, they're likely on a collision course with the Mad Titan himself, though it's unclear at this time how the Guardians will find themselves involved.
Opening May 5, 2017, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell. Opening May 4, 2018, “Avengers: Infinity War” features a sprawling ensemble cast that’s so far confirmed to include Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, Jeremy Renner, Benedict Cumberbatch and Brie Larson, among others.
