Marvel Studios' Director of Visual Development, Andy Park, shared an early concept image for Guardians of the Galaxy's Gamora, which was done before Zoe Saldana was officially cast.

The image, which was shared on Park's Instagram, showed a version of Gamora with patterned designs on her face and body. "Fun fact: this was actually her approved design," Park wrote in the accompanying caption, "Eventually James Gunn changed his mind and decided to go with a simpler look for her face."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1 released in Summer of 2014 and introduced the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Drax, Peter Quill/Star Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon and Groot. The film was a massive success, resulting in a sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, released in 2017.

James Gunn has returned to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The writer and director has shared bits-and-pieces of the upcoming film, including the fact that it will see the death of a character.

According to Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still on schedule, despite the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has delayed the production and release dates of several MCU films.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 currently has no release date. The film is expected to begin production in February 2021.
