WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Gamma Flight #4, available now from Marvel Comics.

The irradiated heroes of Gamma Flight have stepped out of one overwhelming fight and into the middle of a green, glowing conspiracy unlike anything they could have possibly imagined. Thankfully, they've also picked up a brand new ally along the way, and she knows all about what they're up against. Not only does Dionne Fortean have the team's inside scoop as to what exactly Abomination is up to, but she also knows how the Son of the Hulk himself managed to miraculously return to life, as revealed in Gamma Flight #4 by Al Ewing, Crystal Frazier, Lan Medina, Antonio Fabela and VC's Joe Sabino

After narrowly escaping what can only be described as Gamma Purgatory, the heroes are shaken by what they have seen. Apart from an entire town's worth of Gamma Zombies just waiting to surface in the real world, the irradiated villain known as Abomination has come back worse than ever in the form of General Reginald Fortean, Dionne's father and current head of Green Spring. This is the same shadowy organization that gave Dionne her own Gamma abilities, as well as the one that brought the devastating Skaar back to life. The son of the Hulk has been an imposing figure in the Marvel Universe ever since he was introduced, but his brutal return has come along with just as monstrous of a transformation, and there is no part of that story that isn't absolutely gut-wrenching.

Originally introduced to the Marvel Universe in 2008's World War Hulk #5 by Greg Pak and John Romita Jr., Skaar is the son of the Hulk and Caeira the Oldstrong, who met and fell in love during the former's interstellar exile. Over the years, he has been a begrudging tyrant, accidental menace and even for some time aspired to be a hero. Unfortunately, like so many others, Skaar's life was ultimately tainted by Bruce Banner's influence over it. After having served with Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers, Skaar traveled to the Savage Land in the hopes that he might find somewhere resembling his homeland. Instead, he found his father or at least a version of him in the form of Doc Green.

Though he was a human like Bruce Banner, this persona had set out to "cure" every last Gamma Mutate on Earth. This forced cure reduced Skaar to a purely human state, and for a time he lived under the name Santos in rural France. As Dionne explains, he also cropped up relatively recently under the name Doctor Aliana Alba. It was as Alba that Skaar offered himself up as one of Green Spring's earliest test subjects, and through a minor yet brutal surgery, Skaar was reborn. Despite being the test subject for a procedure intended for Dionne, Skaar returned as big and bad as ever, with a personal vendetta to settle that just so happens to align him nicely with Abomination's own efforts.

Understanding how Skaar returned is key to understanding exactly how much General Fortean/Abomination and Green Spring are capable of, but that knowledge does little to actually help in the face of such an imposing threat. The fact that Skaar has Abomination's soldiers backing him up doesn't make the odds any better for the heroes of Gamma Flight, either. There is always the hope that the son of the Hulk could turn on the villains who have resurrected him -- although that doesn't seem likely, especially not while he still has payback to get.
