HBO and IMAX have struck a deal that will allow for Game of Thrones to become the first television series to be presented in the larger-than-life format.
Variety reports the IMAX-ized Game of Thrones presentation will include the final two episodes of the hit fantasy drama's fourth season. To entice fans even more, the screenings will also include an exclusive trailer for the upcoming fifth season.
HBO Chief Marketing Officer Pamela Levine spoke highly of the hit series in the announcement, stating that "the cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format. We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event."
"IMAX always seeks innovative ways to provide moviegoers a unique and differentiated experience and today's partnership with HBO and Game of Thrones achieves just that," IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond added. "This deal also furthers our efforts to offer exhibitors the opportunity to participate in alternative forms of content in a new and exciting way."
The Game of Thrones screenings will run from Jan. 23 to Jan. 29 in 150 theaters located in America's top markets, and tickets will go on sale on the IMAX website sometime in the next few weeks.
Game of Thrones' fifth season will debut in April.
