WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Season 8 of Game of Thrones.

The forces of Westeros -- for the most part -- have gathered at Winterfell on HBO's Game of Thrones in time for the arrival of the Night King and his army of undead. Still, the second episode of this season was decidedly absent of action, instead offering myriad poignant moments between characters. Make no mistake, the end is near.

The preview of next week's episode showcases the panicked faces of the warriors at Winterfell as they prepare to do battle with the Night King and his wights. It begins with a shot of the soldiers beneath the walls as Sansa's voice is heard saying, "The most heroic thing we can do now is look the truth in the face." Jon, Daenerys, Sansa, Arya and Ser Davos look over the ramparts toward the darkness in the distance. Finally, we hear Jon mutter, "the Night King is coming" as the footage explodes into action, without revealing their foes.

The next episode was directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who was behind some of the show's greatest battle-rich episodes, including "Hardhome" and "Battle of the Bastards." The upcoming battle could very well be the one that reportedly took 55 days to shoot and is the largest ever filmed for television.

Episode 3 of Game of Thrones Season 8 airs Sunday, April 28. The HBO drama stars Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark and Kit Harington as Jon Snow.
