The night is dark and full of Game of Thrones prequels.

Deadline is reporting that another Game of Thrones prequel is nearing the green light. The potential spinoff comes from A Song of Ice and Fire writer George R.R. Martin and Colony co-creator and executive producer Ryan Condal. The series would take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follow the early days of the House Targaryen.

The series would be based on Fire & Blood -- an illustrated, historical compendium that focuses on the tales of House Targaryen -- and has reportedly been in development since last fall. The series is a modification of Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman's concept that HBO axed in late April.

HBO has already ordered a pilot for a Game of Thrones prequel series starring Naomi Watts, which will take place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. Martine will serve as executive producer alongside Jane Goldman, who also wrote the pilot.
