The script for "The Iron Stove," the final episode of Game of Thrones, has been released online.

Written by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the script has been made available via the Emmy Awards' website due to the HBO show's nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series.

The synopsis of the episode reads, "In the aftermath of the devastating attack on King's Landing, Daenerys must face the survivors." Although the show was based on George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series, the eighth and final season was comprised of original content, allowing Martin to write his own separate ending, and to avoid the series spoiling the unreleased novels.

While the episode seems to have impressed someone, considering its nomination, at the time of its release, it was controversial among fans, holding a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, criticism over the final season even inspired an online petition asking HBO to re-film the whole season, claiming, "David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on."

The petition ultimately gained more than a million signatures, and even led to HBO president Casey Bloys releasing a statement that it was not "seriously considered" by the cable network.

In spite of the controversy, the season overall earned 32 nominations at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, the most nominations a single series has earned in television history.
