The first trailer for the highly anticipated final season of HBO's Game of Thrones has smashed the network's record for trailer views in the first 24 hours, beating out Season 7's trailer numbers quite handsomely.
According to HBO, the trailer for Season 8 of Game of Thrones was viewed a staggering 81 million times in the first 24 hours following its release this past Tuesday. Season 8's trailer was viewed 20 million times more than the previous record holder, held by Season 7 of Game of Thrones, which racked up 61 million views in its first 24 hours.
The final season, touted by showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff along with the cast as heartbreaking and exciting, will bring to a close everything that the series has been building towards over the past seven seasons. The final season will reportedly feature the longest battle sequence in cinematic history as the living square off against the Night King and his army of wights for control of Westeros.
The eighth and final season of HBO's Game of Thrones, featuring six episodes with longer than usual runtimes, premieres on April 14 at 9 p.m. EST. The HBO drama stars Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Kit Harington.
