The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones has driven a wedge in the once-loyal fanbase of the hit HBO drama. As such, some fans are now calling for the network to remake the entire season, albeit with different writers.

"David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on," a fan named Dylan D. wrote in his petition on change.org, which currently has just under 27,000 signatures. "This series deserves a final season that makes sense."

"Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!" he concluded.

This past Sunday's penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, which saw Daenerys Targaryen mercilessly burn King's Landing to the ground from the back of her last living dragon, has a series-low Rotten Tomatoes score of 47 percent. As for fans' displeasure with the season as a whole, the general consensus seems to be that viewers feel the episodes and narratives are being rushed, and that seasons-worth of development is being undone due to questionable choices made by certain characters.

Conversely, Season 8 has also earned the show some of its highest ratings to date, so the odds of HBO bending the knee to a few thousand unhappy fans are slim.
