Despite the fan backlash to Game of Thrones' series finale, Pilou Asbæk, the actor who played the ruthless Euron Greyjoy, believes the show's conclusion "was a perfect ending."

"When we had the read-through… we ended up doing a standing ovation for 15, 20 minutes. It was a perfect ending," Asbæk told EW.

Asbæk commented further, saying he thinks the backlash is more about the show ending and not specifically the ending itself. "I kind of get it," he explained. "I was a big fan of the show before I became a part of it, and if it had ended in that way, I would have been angry as well. Because when something you like so much says, ‘No,’ it’s like a break-up. And Game of Thrones broke up with millions of people all over the world, and they got upset."

At the 71st Emmy Awards, Game of Thrones' final season secured 12 wins out of a record 32 nominations. The acclaimed HBO series came to an end in 2019 after 8 seasons.
