Peter Dinklage has just made Emmy history.
The Game of Thrones alum set a new record for the most wins in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category. He claimed his fourth win during the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister in the hit HBO series. The previous record was held by Aaron Paul for his performance as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad.
“I count myself so fortunate to be a member of a community that is all about tolerance and diversity, because nowhere else could I be standing on a stage like this,” Dinklage said as he accepted the award. “It’s been about 10 years, all said and done, from the moment I met [series creators] David [Benoiff] and Dan [Weiss] till now. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I knew that David and Dan were quite brilliant… We did nothing but sweat, we did nothing but laugh. Dave and Dan, we literally walked through fire and ice for you -- literally -- and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.”
Dinklage was nominated for each of Game of Thrones’ eight seasons. The show earned a total of 160 Emmy nominations over its entire run, earning a record 32 for its controversial final season. The show picked up multiple awards at last week's Creative Arts Emmys, winning awards for Music Composition, Stunt Coordination, Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, Editing and more.
