Game of Thrones Season 8 saw Arya Stark defeat the Night King, killing the monster before he could slay Bran Stark in Winterfell's godswood. However, there are some who theorize Jon Snow played a major role in making that happen.
The theory goes Jon Snow distracted Viserion, Daenerys' dragon who was killed and resurrected at the end of the previous season. He then screamed at her to go and kill the Night King, having provided her with the distraction she needed to go and slay the threat. However, Maisie Williams, who plays Arya, debunked the theory during the Game of Thrones panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego 2019
"She did that on her own. If we're gonna give credit to anyone, it's Melisandre. She knew what she had to do to put the mission in Arya's head when she's at her lowest point," Williams said, as reported by TV Guide. "After so long being on her own, [Arya] has something to lose now. Being back with her family has made her that much more vulnerable. So if we're going to put it down to anyone for helping her finish the job, it was Melisandre for the 'brown eyes, green eyes, blue eyes' line."
Game of Thrones Season 8 experienced a fairly major backlash from fans and critics, with a controversial remake petition asking HBO to remake the final installment passing 1,000,000 signatures online. Despite that reaction, Game of Thrones Season 8 was nominated for a record 32 Emmy Awards.
