When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die — or sometimes, you're just a badass, as is the case with the Red Viper.
Tower of the Hand reports that three important characters from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novel series are set to join the fray for HBO's fourth season of Game of Thrones. The character inclusions were revealed by Martin himself over the weekend at ConQuest in Kansas City.
According to Martin, Season 4 will introduce the Magnar of Thenn, one of Mance Rayder's greatest Wildling warriors, to the story located at and near the great Wall of Westeros. In King's Landing, two other important characters are getting set to join the mix: Mace Tyrell, the son of Lady Olenna and father of Margaery and Loras, and Oberyn Martell, a hot-headed prince of Dorne and a great warrior with revenge in his heart.
Nicknamed the Red Viper, Oberyn is one of the most popular characters introduced in A Storm of Swords, the third Ice and Fire novel that serves as the template for both seasons three and four of Thrones. He has one of pop culture's most glorious declarations of vengeful intent this side of Inigo Montoya. In other words, get excited.
