Game of Thrones star John Bradley explained how entertainment superstar Jennifer Lopez saved his career.

"I got a phone call from my agent and he says Jennifer Lopez is doing a film in New York and she wants you to play her manager," Bradley told NME. The sudden job opportunity surprised Bradley since his resume had few comedic credits. However, being an admirer of Bradley's Game of Thrones work and off-screen professionalism, Lopez offered the Samwell actor a supporting role in her romantic comedy film Marry Me. "I said, 'Send me the audition script,'" Bradley recalled. "But [my agent] replied, 'There's no audition, she wants you. She's a fan of the show and seen you in interviews.'"

Bradley portrayed Samwell Tarly -- a Night Watch steward and Jon Snow's closest friend -- throughout Game of Thrones' eight seasons. After the fantasy series' finale, Bradley noted how closing that career chapter was strangely hard because he began to believe another big acting role, like Samwell, would never appear. "I was lucky enough to get that one thing," Bradley admitted. "The chances of me getting another role [as big as] that seemed pretty outlandish."

Despite starring in a hit fantasy series, Bradley's acting work came to a standstill after Game of Thrones. "Nobody seemed to want to take a chance on me and my confidence began to suffer," Bradley explained. Plus, whatever optioned roles were brought Bradley's way had little substance compared to his Game of Thrones character or too closely resembled Samwell's sidekick, good-hearted nature. "Every time you have a show as successful as Game of Thrones, loads of [similar characters] follow," Bradley stated. "But I thought: 'I'll resist them.'"

Bradley credited Lopez's casting offer as the moment that saved his confidence and ended his career hiatus, which he described as nightmare-ish. Additionally, because Marry Me highly differs from Game of Thrones' action and drama, Bradley's comedic manager role may help him avoid becoming a typecast actor. "Now a romcom couldn't be more different to Game of Thrones," he said. "It was the reset I needed."

"She's so amazing," Bradley gushed in discussing working with Lopez. He additionally described co-starring with the triple-threat performer as a career highlight among his acclaimed past collaborations, proclaiming, "I've worked with many wonderful actors like Jim Broadbent and Peter Dinklage [both on Game of Thrones] who I admire, but then you work with [Lopez] and she's not only good actor -- but also a singer and a dancer -- and she's respected in the fashion world too. She's reached the top of so many forms of entertainment -- you can't help but be inspired by her."

Marry Me is available to stream on Peacock, and all eight Game of Thrones seasons are available to stream on HBO Max.
