During the HBO Max media conference, the premium cable network announced it had given a 10-episode season order to House of the Dragon, a Game of Thrones prequel set 300 years before the events of the Emmy award-winning original series.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel, House of the Dragon will focus on the Targaryen family, who are well known for ruling with “fire and blood.” The announcement of the new series came with the release of an official poster.

While the poster doesn’t offer much as far as story details, its use of the House Targaryen sigil instantly lets fans know this series will focus on dragons before they were all but eradicated from Westeros. The dragon found on the sigil is colored in a dark blood red, and has three heads.

The tagline “Fire Will Reign” also promises a series that will once again deliver a game mixed with power and flames, courtesy of the mythical creatures the Targaryens have weaponized.

House of the Dragon is created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, with a pilot from Miguel Sapochnik. It will air on HBO with a 10-episode season.
