Game of Thrones' George RR Martin has honored the late Dame Diana Rigg with a eulogy.

The author of A Song of Ice and Fire expressed his sorrow and love over the actor who passed away on Sept. 10 after a brief battle with cancer. Rigg portrayed Olenna Tyrell, Queen of Thorns and matriarch of Highgarden, in the HBO adaptation of Martin's fantasy novels from Season 3 to Season 7. "I am late to post about this, but I was very saddened by the news of a couple recent deaths," Martin said in a tweet. "The world of television and film lost a titan with the passing of Dame Diana Rigg. Such an amazing talent. It was such an honor to have her on GAME OF THRONES as the Queen of Thorns..."

Olenna Tyrell was first mentioned in the 1996 novel, A Game of Thrones, and officially appeared in the sequel, A Clash of Kings, two years later. The character was introduced to the HBO series in the season 3 episode, "Dark Wings, Dark Words." Though she had only appeared in 18 out of the 60 episodes aired, Rigg's portrayal of the Queen of Thorns was highly acclaimed, earning her four Emmy nominations and much popularity among the fans.

Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Kit Harington. The 4K UHD collection will be released on Nov. 3.
