George R.R. Martin shared a behind-the-scenes photo of his cameo in the original, unaired pilot of Game of Thrones."Here's another peek at the past, and the original pilot for GoT," Martin tweeted. "We shot the wedding of Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo in Morocco. Ian McNeice played Illyrio Mopatis, and I played one of the wedding guests, presumably another magister." The image features Martin and McNeice as a Pentoshi nobleman and Illyrio, respectively; they were dressed in the attire traditional to the Free City of Pentos as they looked to the camera and waited for shooting to resume.RELATED: Game of Thrones: Pedro Pascal Auditioned for Oberyn Martell via iPhone

Game of Thrones' original pilot was filmed in 2009. Though some of the material was retained for the HBO series, a majority of the episode was reshot before it officially aired in 2011. Characters were recast, including Tamzin Merchant as Daenerys, Jennifer Ehle as Catelyn and Ian McNeice as Illyrio, and Martin's cameo as the Pentoshi wedding guest ultimately did not transfer over to the finished product.

Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Kit Harington. All eight seasons are available to stream on HBO Max, and the 4K UHD collection will be released on Nov. 3.
