A promotional tweet by the Game of Thrones official Twitter account backfired on social media on Wednesday as fans continued to complain about the eighth and final season of the series and a request for HBO to "fix" Season 8.

It stated with the official account tweeting, "Winter is coming." Presumably, the account was referencing the various celebrations that HBO has been having for the tenth anniversary of Game of Thrones, as well as the network's various plans for spinoffs of the series. However, fans online took the ominous comment as an opening to drag the show for the final season and ask for a remake.

First off, people were inspired by the tweet to complain some more. New York Times reporter, Astead W. Herndon, replied to the tweet with, "if HBO wants me to watch a Game Of Thrones spin off I want a personal apology for season 8. 12 pt font, double spaced, no funny business on the margins."

One user took the time to troll David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, who adapted George R.R. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice novels into the Game of Thrones TV series, with, "Ruined season by rushing it without character progression. All that for the chance to write a Star Wars movie that was yanked because season 8 was a disaster."

Soon, though, fans moved on from complaining about Season 8 to requesting a "fixed" final season.

One user wrote, "Between us I'm ALL IN on us pretending it's early 2019, season 8 hasn't happened yet, and doing the damn thing fresh. Our secret!"

Another user responded, "Unless you erase and re-do season 8 no shit is coming."

A number of fans pointed out how HBOMax released the Zack Snyder version of Justice League, so why not a Game of Thrones remake? One of the most popular responses was, "Winter was coming for 7 fucking years and then disappeared in 15 minutes. Nobody fucking cares anymore. If you can give Zack Snyder $100 million for Justice League, u can remake season 8."

Once fans see trailers for the spinoffs, the mood on social media will very likely change, but until then, Game of Thrones will likely deal with reactions like this for a while longer.
