Mark the calenders: all eight seasons of Game of Thrones are being released in 4K Ultra HD on HBO Max.

According to a report from Variety, the new release will improve the quality of the sound and visuals of the popular fantasy series, boosting the fidelity higher than ever before. There is no word yet on exactly when the new version of Game of Thrones will launch, but it will be exclusively available to HBO Max subscribers. This announcement comes ahead of HBO's House of the Dragon, which also takes place in the world of Westeros, and is slated to premiere on the streamer on Aug. 21.

House of the Dragon is set 200 years before Game of Thrones and focuses on the fall of House Targaryen. The show is based on George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood, which ultimately culminates in the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.

House of the Dragon isn't the only Game of Thrones spinoff in the works. Martin recently revealed that there is a Jon Snow-based show in the works with the working title Snow. As of now, Kit Harington will be reprising his role as the iconic character, the bastard son of Lord Eddard Stark. Jon Snow underwent a tragic conclusion at the end of Game of Thrones, one that some think can be redeemed in a spinoff.

According to actor Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys in Game of Thrones, the show was actually conceived by Harington. "It's been created by Kit as far as I can understand," Clarke said. "So he's in it from the ground up. So what you will be watching, hopefully, if it happens, is certified by Kit Harington."

Created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, Game of Thrones is an adaptation of Martin's fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire. The show premiered in 2011 on HBO and came to an end in 2019. Despite becoming arguably one of the most iconic franchises of the last decade, the series was largely criticized by fans and critics for its poor final season. Many viewers felt the finale was rushed and inconclusive, delivering an unsatisfying resolution to several major characters.

All eight seasons of Game of Thrones are currently available to stream on HBO Max. House of the Dragon arrives on Aug. 21.
