Gal Gadot returned to Themyscira as Diana Price once more for a Saturday Night Live sketch in which the Wonder Woman star kisses Kate McKinnon.
In the sketch, McKinnon and Aidy Bryant play two lesbians lost as sea who are excited to discover an island populated by warrior women. However, that soon turns to disappointment when they learn none of the Amazons identify as lesbian. "OK, well, this is a huge letdown for us," Bryant's character says, with McKinnon adding, "Yeah, 'cause the whole thing seems so super-gay."
Gadot's Diana finally agrees to kiss McKinnon, just to see if she feels anything. Alas, she concedes, after a lengthy kiss, "I'm sorry, I feel nothing."
The sketch of course touches upon a recurring question about how the Amazons view sexuality. Writer Greg Rucka confirmed last year that his interpretation of the DC Comics icon is "queer," and Gadot herself addressed the matter shortly thereafter, acknowledging, "“when you talk theoretically about all the women on Themyscira and how many years she was there, then what he said makes sense." A fan petition launched last month for Wonder Woman to be depicted as bisexual in the Warner Bros. sequel has more than 8,900 supporters.
Gadot debuted as Wonder Woman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before starring in a blockbuster solo film. which earned more than $818 million worldwide. She'll reprise the role next month in Justice League.
