Work on a new Wonder Woman film appears to be making progress, as star Gal Gadot recently shared a promising update on the current status of Wonder Woman 3.

Although the DC Extended Universe hero's third film is still in the early stages, Gadot assured fans progress is being made, as the actor expressed her excitement about concluding the trilogy with director Patty Jenkins. "We’re talking!" Gadot said during an interview with Forbes. "We’re actually in the mix of working on the script and getting the third one made, so it’s all wheels are working and turning and I’m super, super excited for the fans to come and watch Wonder Woman 3 once it’s made."

Gadot began hyping up Wonder Woman 3 on the fourth anniversary of 2017's Wonder Woman last summer. "Thank you all so much for the love, I’m forever grateful for this amazing opportunity and I promise we will always do everything to keep and tell Wonder Woman’s story in the best way possible," she wrote at the time. An update on the threequel was then shared late last year when Gadot commented on Wonder Woman 3's script, saying, "I can't tell you yet, but we're working on the script." After being asked if she could provide any clues regarding its plot, Gadot replied, "No, because then people will come off the roof and take me away."

Following her multiple cameos as Asteria in 2020's Wonder Woman 1984, actor Lynda Carter -- who played Wonder Woman on the television series of the same name from 1975-1979 -- has since been confirmed to be returning for Wonder Woman 3. Gadot discussed having Carter join Wonder Woman 3, explaining that her involvement "means the world" to her. "First of all, Lynda has mentored me from the very first moment that I got cast as Wonder Woman," she continued. "She was always there, talking to me, giving me tips and everything. She's a true champion of what Patty [Jenkins] and I have been doing, and it was so great that we managed to find the right opportunity to bring her to the last movie and now to the third one."

Another Wonder Woman 3 update came earlier this year, as Gadot commented on when she expects filming might get underway. "We're developing the script right now," the actor said. "We'll probably start in a year and a half or so." The movie currently lacks an official release date, but if Gadot is suggesting filming won't begin until mid-2023, then fans could possibly expect to see Wonder Woman 3 in theaters as early as 2024.
