This article contains spoilers for The Boys Season 3, Episode 6 "Herogasm."

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke recently recalled how Gal Gadot's "Imagine" video made the superhero satire's writers instantly think of The Deep.

Kripke discussed how Gadot's infamous 2020 celebrity cover version of John Lennon's classic pop song influenced The Boys' third season in an interview with Variety. "The Gal Gadot 'Imagine' video came out while the writers were writing [Season 3]," he said. "And when it came out, we all kind of came in and everyone was sort of buzzing about it… The target was too big and juicy to not go for, because she's a superhero putting out something to the public that is a little tone deaf to the struggles that people were really going through [during the pandemic]. Just that notion of, "I'm going to help people through just my sheer star power.' It's not a well-performed song just, 'My sheer power as a celebrity will help heal you a little bit.'"

"I mean, she did it with good intentions, I don’t want to shit on it," Kripke continued. "But it was funny. And so we were like, 'That’s something The Deep would do. The Deep would do that.' So we got the rights to the song and started calling all of our friends. And really just any of them who were like, 'Yeah, I'll film myself singing a couple of lines from 'Imagine',' we said 'Great! Do it. Send it to us.' We ended up with a really awesome roster of people."

The Boys' parody of Gadot's "Imagine" cover appears in Season 3, Episode 6, "Herogasm", in which The Deep (Chace Crawford) shares his own version of the video in the wake of a supposed supervillain atrocity. Aside from appearances by A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), the parody features real-world celebrities Patton Oswalt, Josh Gad, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Elizabeth Banks, Kumail Nanjiani, Aisha Tyler and Rose Byrne.

While this dig at Gadot and her famous collaborators didn't go unnoticed by fans, it's largely overshadowed by the superhero orgy later in the episode that lends "Herogasm" its name. That sequence is filled with numerous graphic depictions of sex and violence, however, Kripke recently revealed that some content still didn't make the final cut. Among the ideas that The Boys writer's room toyed with was a scene in which an aquatic Supe had sex underwater, which was something that Kripke ultimately felt would be too difficult to realize on-screen.

The Boys Season 3 is currently streaming on Prime Video, with new episodes arriving Fridays.
