Before its release, Warner Bros.' superhero film Shazam! was on track to gross $40 million at the domestic box office. However, as of this Sunday, the newest entry in the so-called DC Extended Universe has shattered past its projections to earn an estimated $50 million domestically, and $155 million worldwide.

On top of its surprising box office take, Shazam! has also earned a CinemaScore grade of A, making the movie an official success for Warner Bros. Following the film's impressive reception, Wonder Woman star and face of the DCEU Gal Gadot has congratulated the film's success on her Instagram page.

The actress shared a picture featuring a pair of action figures of Shazam and Wonder Woman, feet planted in the snow, arms up in celebration of the movie's success. "Congratulations on opening weekend!" Gadot wrote. "This movie is so fun, you all need to see it!" And, if that weren't enough, the actress officially welcomed star Zachary Levi to the DCEU family. "So proud of you Zachary Levi," she added. "Welcome to the universe brother! We've been waiting for you. Celebrating you from 8,000 ft. "

Shazam! not only beat the Stephen King novel adaptation Pet Semetary over the weekend, the movie has also earned a mighty 'Certified Fresh' rating from Rotten Tomatoes with 93% positive reviews.

The film introduces Billy Batson and his titular alter ego to the DCEU. It is firmly established in the shared universe of DC superheroes, as it features many nods to the characters whom we have already seen in previous movies, like Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman. But while Shazam shares a (very) brief scene with Superman, the superhero has yet to interact with the rest of the DCEU. However, the after-credits scene of the film shows the potential of crossing the film's cast over with the rest of the Justice League.

While a sequel for the film has not been announced yet, producer Peter Safran has said that if one is to happen, it will have to be happen soon, given that the film's young cast are growing at a rapid rate.
