The English dub of Gal & Dino premiered on Funimation's streaming platform.
Funimation, announced this week that it will stream the English dub for director Jun Aoki's latest comedy series. The dub stars Macy Anne Johnson (Howan in Show by Rock!! Star!!) as Kaede, Anairis Quinones (Rika Kawai in Wonder Egg Priority) as Yamada and Yuri Lowenthal (Simon in Gurren Lagann) as Shouta and Shouta Aoi. The English cast also includes Andra Bruce, Doug Stone, Wayne Grayson, Jonathan Fahn and Frank Todaro. The dub was overseen by producer Michael Sinterniklaas and voice director Andy Roth.
Gal & Dino originally aired in 2020. The anime was produced by studios Kamikaze Douga and Space Neko Company. The original Japanese broadcast starred Miyuri Shimabukuro, Yuto Natsuyoshi and Seiichiro Yamashita. The show's music was done by Gin, known for his work on The Way of the Househusband and BUSTED ROSE.
Gal & Dino is based on the manga My Roomie is a Dino by writer Moriko Mori and artist Cota Tomimura. The series follows Kaede, a typical young woman who wakes up to discover that she brought home a dinosaur after a night of heavy drinking. Kaede rolls with it and decides to let the creature stay with her permanently. Things don't go as expected and Kaede finds co-existing with her new prehistoric roommate isn't as easy as she'd thought it'd be. The original manga completed its run in January 2022 and was compiled into six tankōbon volumes.
Jun Aoki is primarily known for his work on Pop Team Epic, which was an immediate hit when it originally aired in January 2018. The absurd comedy follows 14-year-olds Popuko and Pipimi as they encounter bizarre situations and deal with them in even stranger ways. The show was praised for its sense of humor, which was packed with pop culture references, surrealism and non-sequiturs. The original and still on-going Pop Team Epic manga was created by artist Bukubu Okawa, who recently took part in a collaboration with Tokyo Revengers. The show is expected to receive a second season in 2022 but a release date has not yet been announced.
The dubbed and subbed versions of Gal & Dino are both streaming on Funimation. Mori and Tomimura's manga is available in English from publisher Kodansha USA. Pop Team Epic is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
