The fifth season of FX's Justified just started a week ago, but it was confirmed Tuesday at the Television Critics Association that the series as a whole will come to a close following season six. Yet before fans ready their online petitions and Twitter campaigns, FX CEO John Landgraf made it clear that it was a creative decision, not a business one.

"It was [showrunner] Graham Yost and [series star] Timothy Olyphant's decision," Landgraf is quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. "I would have liked to have had more Justified, it's one of my favorite shows."

The article notes that Landgraf "regretfully" accepted Yost and Olyphant's decision, and that the duo had been thinking six seasons and out for a while. "We talked about it a year ago; they felt that the arc of the show and what they had to say would be best served by six seasons instead of seven."

Based on Elmore Leonard-created U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, Justified debuted in 2010, and has since received widespread critical acclaim, including seven Emmy nominations and two wins.
