Y -- FX's upcoming television adaptation of the acclaimed Vertigo Comics series Y: The Last Man -- has found its new lead in actor Ben Schnetzer.

Per Variety, Schnetzer will play protagonist Yorick Brown, replacing actor Barry Keoghan in the role. Keoghan -- who is now set to star in Marvel Studios' Eternals -- was cast as Yorick back in 2018 and starred in the show's unreleased pilot. Y was ordered to series by FX in early 2019, but was delayed indefinitely only a few months later amidst a rework stemming from the the departure of showrunners Aida Mashaka Croal and Michael Green and the subsequent hiring of replacement Eliza Clark.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Keoghan had departed the series as well, and that FX would be recasting the role of Yorick Brown. (At this time, the rest of Y's previously announced cast still appear to be attached to the project.) With the casting of Schnetzer, it seems FX has found a new actor to take on the role relatively quickly. Schnetzer previously starred in FX's drama pilot Gone Hollywood. He has appeared in such other TV shows as The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair and Happy Town, as well as such films as Punk's Dead: SLC Punk 2, WarcraftSnowden, Pride, The Book Thief, 7 Days in Entebbe and The Riot Club.

Written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Pia Guerra, Y: The Last Man was first published under DC Comics' Vertigo imprint in 2002. The series follows Yorick Brown, an amateur escape artist who --save for his monkey companion Ampersand -- is the sole survivor of a plague that kills every male mammal on Earth. The official synopsis for FX's adaptation promises "the new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival."
