FX hopes you enjoy your stay in Fargo — because if all goes well, you'll be there quite a while.
During the Television Critics Association winter press tour this week, the cable network announced plans to expand the upcoming limited series Fargo, with new seasons set to focus on different characters and crimes based in Fargo, North Dakota, and right across the way in Minnesota. FX is already familiar with the strategy: It's a page straight out of the American Horror Story playbook, as each season of the horror series centers on different characters and settings.
In the case of Fargo, each season will focus on different facets of Fargo's "small townness" and "innocence," according to writer and executive producer Noah Hawley, already at work on planning Season 2. As for whether those plans include any of the cast members on the upcoming first season — like Martin Freeman as ill-fated salesman Lester Nygaard, for instance — it's too early to say.
"I don't even know how Lester finishes the story," the actor said. "I don't know whether he's dead, alive, transgender; I don't know what's happening. So I don't know how he ends up. It's so hypothetical to kind of wonder if I would come back. If they wanted me back and the scripts were good enough, then yeah."
For now, the first season of Fargo premieres on April 15.
